Job growth slows; most gains in low-wage work

Nationally, jobs were up 215,000 in July, a good number according to economists, but less than the average 246,000 job gains averaging for the last year. The employment market keeps increasing, but at a steady pace. The unemployment rate has been holding steady around 5.3 percent, down from 6.2 percent last July, but in the 5.3 percent to 5.5 percent neighborhood over the past few months. The job creation, however, is still in lower-wage, low- or no-benefit positions. Retail trade led the job gains…
