
Mortgage rates crept up this week amid mixed economic news both here and abroad, and Freddie Mac says the direction rates will head in the near future remains unclear. Rates, however, remain well below year-ago levels. A 30-year fixed-rate mortgage averaged 3.94 percent in the week ending August 13, up from 3.91 percent last week.
