Report: Memphis hotels owe back taxes

Memphis area hotels owe more than $330,000 in back taxes, according to the Commercial Appeal. A recent report from the City of Memphis found that 22 percent of area hotels are behind on taxes. The discrepancy is based upon a 1.7 percent "bed tax" for stays of fewer than 30 days. Overall, these taxes generate $4.2 million per year for the city.
