What recovery? Millions aren’t even trying to get jobs

The declining unemployment rate gets lots of attention, but 40 percent of the 8.5 million unemployed Americans have given up looking for jobs, according to a Harris poll. Other findings: - According to the survey, 57 percent of the unemployed are men; 43 percent are women. - 35 percent are ages 18 to 29; 21 percent are 30 to 39; 17 percent are 40 to 49; 18 percent 50 to 59; and 9 percent are 60 or older.
